Getting Organized

One barrier to projects such as this is creating a vehicle for donations, spending, etc. Setting up a new 501c3 non-profit takes a phenomenal effort. Fortunately, there are non-profits who exist to incubate new non-profits, providing services such as fiscal sponsorship. We're taking this approach right now, aiming to work with the LA-based Community Partners.

Downtown Artwalk - St. Valentine's Day

Spent the afternoon at LA's monthly downtown art walk checking out gallery spaces and local artists.  Lots of exciting spaces down there, especially MJ Higgins, The Hive Gallery, Infusion Gallery, the Spring Street Arts Collective, Lost Souls Cafe, Dale Youngman's gallery.

Also, checked out poetry and a performance at Machine Project this week and talked to those guys about the possibility of using their space this summer, and spent some time talking on the phone with billboard companies about displaying our PSA contest-winning entry.

Got our business cards this week.  Cost: $50.

Charities

Currently researching and considering various charities which would be appropriate to contact and to pledge a part of monies raised from future art/ad contests.

Up, Running and Spending

Transparency is important. To get this far has involved buying domain names (.org and .com), the same at $6.12 per year each through 1&1. They are being hosted on a Beginner Package at $24 for every six months, which also provides email. The domains point to a Typepad Plus account for another $8.95 a month, to enable easy publishing with a range of collaborative tools.
